Read The Instructions To Your Wedding Cake

If you’re getting married, one of the most fun parts of planning your wedding will be choosing your wedding cake. There is more to this than just going to a baker and looking through a selection of different types and styles of cakes. When you are buying or ordering your wedding cake, there are different things that you had to consider. Something that happened to my sister-in-law taught me this very lesson. I didn’t have any problems with my cake, but she had a huge one with hers.

There are many different types of wedding cake to choose from. This means that you not only have to think about what flavor of cake you want, you also have to think about the decorations and other things. Today many wedding cakes can come with different fillings, and different things hidden underneath the icing. This might make choosing your wedding cake more fun, but also makes it a little more risky. If you don’t know what you are getting into, and your baker doesn’t warn you, you may end up with a big mess on your hands and a lot of disappointment.

The wedding cake that my sister-in-law chose had a chocolate shell underneath the icing. Her baker did not tell her to keep the cake out of the refrigerator. Once she had the wedding cake in her hands she should have left it out at room temperature. However, she did not know this and she put her cake in a refrigerator overnight. When the cake was left sitting out at the reception, condensation formed as the cake warmed up, and the icing began to slide off of the chocolate shell. By the time it was time to cut the wedding cake, it was a pretty sad sight indeed.

If you go with a baker to have your wedding cake made, make sure you ask them about any specific instructions that may come with a particular cake that you choose. You don’t want to have the same problem with your wedding cake that my sister-in-law did. Even though she is very easy going, it did put a damper on her day. You only have one wedding day, at least you can hope, and you don’t want something to happen to your wedding cake. If it does though, make sure you take it with good humor and don’t let it spoil your day. No matter what may happen to the outside of your wedding cake, it all tastes the same.

It’s The High Point Of Your Wedding - The Cake Topper

The focal point of every wedding reception is the cake. Brides and grooms sometimes spend months trying to pick out exactly the right cake. Everything from the flavor of this culinary masterpiece, to the color of the icing and the wedding cake topper are all important details. The topper in particular can be a fun way to express how the couple feels about their special day.  Traditionally you’d often see a small bride and groom atop the cake. Many brides even went so far as to find a wedding cake topper where the tiny figurines sported the same hair color as her and her intended. This is a really fun idea and is still very much in vogue today.

The sky really has become the limit when it comes to this wedding accessory. A heart is a symbol of love and is very appropriate to have as a wedding cake topper. These designs typically come in either plastic or crystal. The crystal is more expensive and looks very elegant sitting on top of any wedding cake. The plastic variety can be embossed with almost anything including red or gold crystals and even decorated with ribbon and flowers. For a crafty bride, she can purchase a plain, plastic heart shaped topper at a wedding supply store and design it herself with the help of a hot glue gun.

Monogrammed sculptures are lovely to use as well. These are generally a custom order idea as the bride and the groom are looking for a wedding cake topper where their first initials will be woven together. If you visit a store that sells toppers they are likely to have the ability to order things like this that are personalized. You may even be able to sketch out the final design yourself.

If you and your groom have wonderful senses of humor and you want to express that at your wedding, consider buying a joke wedding cake topper. These come in several different hilarious styles and can really add a whimsical touch to any wedding celebration. One very popular design is that of finely dressed bride and groom figures with the groom wearing a ball and chain around his ankle. Another fun and original one is of the bride and groom taking a plunge into a swimming pool.

Whatever design you ultimately decide upon be certain that someone is taking plenty of pictures of it. Even though you want your guests to enjoy the wedding cake, you do want to have tangible memories of the beauty of it long after it’s been eaten. Also keep the cake topper somewhere special so you can glance at it from time to time to remember the joy you felt that day.
